I’m Jon DeHart. I write about travel, culture, and society across Asia. I’m the author of two first-edition Japan guidebooks for Moon Travel Guides, and a journalist with more than 500 published articles. My work has appeared in publications including Vice and Travel + Leisure, and my reporting for The Diplomat has been selected for “best of the web” lists by The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Huffington Post, Foreign Policy, and Real Clear World. I’ve also worked as an editor for webzines, including The Diplomat, as well as international newswires and a monthly print magazine. In addition to my writing, I provide bespoke travel consulting and interpret cultural and behavioral trends for insights agencies.

Writing

I’ve written extensively about travel, culture and social trends in Asia for numerous publications, both in print and online. I also write in-depth reports for behavioral insights and cultural consulting agencies.

Drawing on insights gleaned through researching and writing two first-edition Japan guidebooks, I craft one-off itineraries for savvy, adventurous travelers keen to veer off the country’s beaten path.
